Snow piled high along Route 28, plows throttling the pace, instincts skidding toward chaos - but Salted Folk cut through the storm. During what locals now known as the 2026 AFC Championship Storm, Catie Flynn and Pat Croke turned a freezing Sunday morning at Cape Roots in Harwich Port into something glowing, intimate, and rare. With electric mandolin, cherub vocals, and lyrics drifting like snowfall, this Field Notes entry captures a winter performance that felt as warming as it was transportive.

Thinking about snow and bombing around on 28 along the south side of this dear island this morning - cursing the plows up ahead keeping us at a livable speed, thwarting the instinct to push the disposable little trackless trains into a skidding flight on the way to another small room, daylight performance - and I am reminded of the most dense snowfall in memory (most commonly referred to now as the 2026 AFC Championship Storm) when Salted Folk (Catie Flynn & Pat Croke) turned up to dazzle the Winter Warriors who made the journey to Cape Roots in Harwich Port.
Lucky for those who couldn't get themselves around the plows that morning, we were there and we brought our handy-dandy motion capture apparatus. From the live, we bring you a Memorex select look & listen into that Sunday morning show. No matter how times you hear Pat's on the electric mandolin, the sounds is so uncommon, so rare, it's like getting a massage for the music knot in your back: you lean into it, are tickled, and feel just generally better when it's over. Coupling that sound with Catie's cherub vocals as the two of them flit over Robert Hunter or John Price lyrics does not get old ... and can sound almost like a fire crackling when you see the bright snowfall outside the window.
Stay warm.
